Bringing the Fire

Alternative News/Facts

Maybe you’ve seen it by now? A viral video of Tucker Carlson going after US Senator Ted Cruz from Texas regarding the Iran/Israel conflict. You may or may not know who Carlson is, he started out as a writer, then commentator. He has appeared on various major media outlets, none of which are hosting this kind of fiery, dare I say ballsy interviewing.

What we are seeing on mainstream cable (not local news) interviews are more or less, pundits around a table discussing their opinions. Do correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t watch much of this “news” because it’s not new, it’s just the same people opining about various topics related to politics and not to actual current events having nothing to do with Washington.

But I digress. Let’s get back to Tucker and Ted. So, Tucker calmly asks the Senator about why we would enter a war and gets his response, then digs deeper, asking what the religious makeup of Iran is, and gets it right back. The point is, it becomes quite intense as Tucker digs in, asking questions that Cruz cannot easily shut down as Carlson remains mostly calm. Here is where he loses me as a journo, he shows his outrage to the Senator for his unknowing on the subject. (I mean I don’t disagree that someone voting or supporting something like a war with a nuclear power might want to know a tad more on why he’s supporting said war.

The video has been viewed tens of millions of times from Carlson’s show on X, the social media platform formerly known as twitter. As a journalism student from way back when, I find this kind of interview, and the legs the story leaves behind exciting. It reminds me of why I got into the business, whether I agree or disagree with the content of the interview or the people who are involved. It’s this kind of discourse we need to keep seeing from the media, not the kind that reports the same exact stories repeatedly. Let’s stay engaged!
