The Real on the 4th 🎇

What's the actual meaning behind Independence Day?

Amongst the burgers, hot dogs and partying like it's 1776, lest us not forget the meaning behind 4th of July. 🌭🍔

The legal separation of the thirteen colonies from Great Britain happened during the American Revolution a couple days before the 4th. That's when the Second Continental Congress voted for a resolution of independence to declare the US would be independent from Great Britain's rule. 🇬🇧 🇺🇸

Just before that Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence and congress debated and rewrote it, approving it on... you guessed it - July 4th. 📜

Americans immediately celebrated Independence Day on the 4th, the date shown on the Declaration of Independence, instead of the date of its approval, July 2nd. 🌟

It's also been long wondered if the document was actually signed a month later. But Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin all said it was indeed signed on July 4th.👨🏻‍⚖️ 👨🏻‍⚖️👨🏻‍⚖️

According to Wikipedia, there was a remarkable coincidence, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, the only two signatories of the document, and both presidents of the US, both died on the same day: July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. 🙌🏼
